Ghost (blogging platform) made it entirely painless to update my author profile - which also updated every reference to my old name and photo on my blog. I am very happy about this. Thank you Ghost! And yes, I see the message nagging me to upgrade. Sorry, but I think for the moment I'm sticking with an 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach.
Example: This website broke. It apparently stopped responding to web requests and email to std@usingname.space wasn't being delivered. So something broke, and then I was spurred to action. Luckily it was an easy fix. Apparently if I go for months without rebooting my Ghost droplet on DigitalOcean, it runs out of memory. Maybe a Node.JS thing? Maybe a Ghost thing? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh well, rebooting once every > 6 months is no big deal. ;-)
Yes, I understand that updating Ghost might also fix this problem. But that takes time. And effort. And I have a toddler and a full-time job. I'll get around to it eventually...
Also, some readers might be wondering why I needed to update my name and photo in my author profile. Surprise - I'm transgender! Geek, software developer, queer - yup, trans woman stereotypes that I'm unapologetically embodying. I'm out everywhere (including work) now, so this is one of dozens of places that are on my to-do list of name/gender marker changes. According to my federal and state government IDs, I'm a woman - yay! - but soooooooo big a pain updating records everywhere that has my name.
Potential upside of potential dystopian future where the (Trump-controlled) government controls literally everything - If they're not completely terribad at IT infrastructure, it might be possible to update name once and have it propagate everywhere without any hassle... not worth voting for Trump though! Hopefully you're reading this from a future timeline where he doesn't win. </politics>
